As an introvert, a simple conversation can be a struggle ! Heck, we could be sitting inches from each other but I would be forever waiting for you to start a conversation. Introverts are not fond of small talks neither do they want to partake in conversations with a large group of people. However, over the years I have learnt strategies that allows me to have good conversations with coworkers and friends. Read on as I guide you through 5 tips on how you can start and keep a conversation going.

Listen Actively
Pay close attention to the person speaking and show that you’re interested by nodding, making eye contact, and saying things like “yes” or “uh-huh.” Ask questions that require more than just a “yes” or “no” answer to encourage them to share more. When you actively listen, it makes the other person feel valued and leads to better conversations.

Find common interests
Look for things you both like or have experienced. When you find something you have in common, talk about it. It helps you connect with the other person and makes conversation easier. For example, if you both enjoy a certain TV show or have been to the same place, talk about that and ask questions about their experiences.

Use your strengths
As an introvert, you have strengths like being thoughtful and good at thinking deeply. Use these strengths in conversations. Instead of talking a lot, focus on making meaningful comments or asking questions that make the other person think.
