Credit Corporation (PNG) Limited seeks an experienced person to fill in the role of Senior Lega Officer (Litigation).
The incumbent enhances the level of legal support available to the corporation in PNG commensurate with the corporation’s expanding business in the region. This role is based in Port Moresby.
Outline of duties:
- Provides legal service to on all litigation matters.
- Provides research, information, counsel, and guidance on basic legal questions or issues, usually in support of the Head of Legal (HoL). Assists in analysis of issues to identify legal problems. Work involves facts usually not in question, that can be defined or established within the clear definition of the law.
- Follows precedents and works independently daily.
- Assignments require some discretion as to their scope. Key points of work are reviewed with alternative courses or action, and unusual situations are presented to the HoL for review.
- Provides research, information, counsel, and guidance on basic legal questions or issues, usually in support of the Head of Legal (HoL). Assists in analysis of issues to identify legal problems.

- Advising on and representing Credit Corp on:
- a variety of issues requiring dispute resolution.
- potentially litigious matters and matters which are the subject of litigation.
- Prepares memoranda and initial drafts of legal documents. Examines documents for legal sufficiency.
- Manages and runs all in-house litigation matters.
- Take directions and guidance from the Head of Legal.
- Conduct research on all litigious matters, determine information, counsel and guidance on legal issues.
- Manage and provide instructions on behalf of the Business to external legal counsel in litigation, including reviewing complex documents relating to transactions.
- Other duties of a legal nature as may be assigned by line manager.
- Advise and collaborate with the Business on legislative, regulatory and policy issues and participate in planning to ensure the Business remains in regulatory compliance.
- Advise the Business on developments in the law in PNG.
- When directed by line manager, participate in local and regional Team meetings and activities.
Requirements for the role:
- Admitted to practice law in the National and Supreme Courts of Papua New Guinea.
- Demonstrable post-admission experience in providing practical legal advice and drafting legal documents.
- Ability to identify commercial solutions and provide practical, no nonsense advice.
- Experience conducting commercial and legal negotiations.
- 8+ years post admission experience in corporate and commercial law areas of practice.
Formal Qualifications:
Mandatory:
- Bachelor of Laws Degree.

- Tenacious and excels under pressure.
- Willingness to travel.
- Ability to operate as part of a team.
- Ability to adapt and operate effectively in an organisation undergoing significant and rapid change.
