We are seeking a New Zealand or Australian qualified plumber, preferably with experience in the South Pacific hotel industry, to oversee the plumbing requirements of our three Cook Islands beach resorts covering general resort maintenance and new construction work. Qualifications and experience with other trades such as air conditioning and refrigeration would be a considerable advantage.
The job description would include but not be limited to the following;
Diagnose malfunctioning systems, apparatus, and components, using test equipment and hand tools, to locate the cause of a breakdown and correct the problem.
Inspect plumbing systems, equipment, and components to identify hazards, defects, and the need for adjustment or repair, and to ensure compliance with codes.
Advise management on whether continued operation of equipment could be hazardous.
Test plumbing systems and equipment, and fixtures, using testing devices, to ensure compatibility and safety of system.
Maintain current plumber’s license or identification card to meet governmental regulations.
Plan layout and installation of plumbing systems, equipment, and fixtures, based on job specifications and local codes
Direct and train workers to install, maintain, or repair plumbing works, equipment, and fixtures.
Prepare sketches or follow blueprints to determine the location of plumbing and equipment and to ensure conformance to building and safety codes.
Use a variety of tools and equipment such as power construction equipment, measuring devices, power tools, and testing equipment including oscilloscopes, ammeters, and test lamps.
Perform business management duties such as maintaining records and files, preparing reports and ordering supplies and equipment.
Repair or replace plumbing equipment, and fixtures, using hand tools and power tools.
Work from ladders, scaffolds, and roofs to install, maintain or repair plumbing wiring, equipment, and fixtures.
Place conduit (pipes or tubing) inside designated partitions, walls, or other concealed areas, and place plumbing pipes.
Construct and fabricate parts, using hand tools and specifications.
Perform physically demanding tasks, such as digging trenches to lay plumbing lines and moving and lifting heavy objects.
Provide preliminary sketches and cost estimates for materials and services.
Provide assistance, during emergencies by operating floodlights and generators and driving needed vehicles. Install, maintain, and enhance plumbing systems and components.
Qualifications for Plumber
- Completion of an plumbing apprenticeship programme required
- Completion of an plumbing program at a technical or trade school preferred
- 5 years+ experience as a registered plumber
You must be able to work unsupervised as well as be able to supervise other maintenance staff.
Our resorts operate 24/7 and you will need to be able to be on call as required.
