Job Overview

Woodford International School

Woodford International School is an authorized IB World School and Cambridge International Accreditation Centre. It is the premier international school in the Solomon Islands, offering the Primary Years Programme in the Primary School, and Cambridge Lower secondary, Upper Secondary and Advanced in the Secondary School. Woodford is committed to the development of responsible global citizens and leaders through a balanced approach to learning and life.

We are currently seeking expressions of interest from experienced PYP Coordinators to join Woodford in June/July 2023. Actively working with teachers, the PYP Coordinator will lead and drive the development of the programme and continue to build expectations throughout the Primary School. Additionally, the PYPC will drive the self study and preparation for the IB evaluation, scheduled for early 2024.

As a key person in the School Leadership Team, the PYP Coordinator will contribute to the school’s overall development and implementation of initiatives, and build capacity within the school and external community. The PYPC should have a philosophy of education and personal attributes that is congruent with the philosophy and principles of both WIS and the International Baccalaureate (IB).

The greater part of the role requires the coordinator to work with teachers in the classroom setting and in planning meetings. In an effort to seek continuous improvement and greater understanding, the coordinator should seek to inspire, motivate, affirm and extend the practice and pedagogy of educators who are seeking to improve themselves, through collaborative planning and ongoing professional dialogue.

As WIS is working towards developing a stronger focus on Information and Communication Technologies, the applicant will be a competent and confident user of computer applications relevant to both the Teaching and Learning Programme and classroom administration procedures.

Woodford offers a competitive salary package based on qualifications and experience

The successful candidate will demonstrate:

  • Passionate advocacy of the Primary Years Programme
  • An ability to motivate and empower all staff to create an innovative and supportive learning environment
  • An ability to vision the future of learning at WIS that promotes excellence, character development and the joy of learning in all stakeholders
  • Support for continuous professional growth of all staff
  • An ability to mentor and lead quality teaching and learning through modeling and engaging in classroom practice alongside teachers
  • An ability to lead reflective discussions about practice and the implementation of the learning framework and its principles
  • Experience in raising the awareness of the PYP within the community
  • Experience in developing an action plan based on the Standards and Practices of the PYP
  • Professionalism as is appropriate to this position, acting as an exemplary role model and remaining committed and loyal to the WIS community
  • A successful track record of leading schools through IB authorisations and evaluations

The following attributes and qualifications are preferred:

  • Bachelor’s degree minimum in an education related area, preferably a Master’s Recognised current teaching certificate
  • Extensive PYP training and experience
  • Commitment to lifelong learning
  • Innovative and visionary
  • Resilience and ability to adjust to living with the challenges of a developing country
  • Approachable and well-respected with a sense of humour
  • A wide variety of experiences from which to draw inspiration
  • Widely read and knowledgeable about pedagogy and current trends in education
  • Comfort in working with technology, particularly a strong knowledge with using Google Docs

WIS reserves the right to make an appointment at any time, if an exceptional candidate is identified early in the process. For this reason, interested candidates are encouraged to apply at the earliest possible time.

Expressions of interest should be addressed to the Head of School with the subject line,
PYPC application, and emailed directly to: [email protected]
