Job Overview

We are seeking to recruit a Plant Metallurgist for our Processing – Metallurgy Department. Reporting to the Senior Plant Metallurgist – the successful applicant will mainly be responsible for optimizing plant parameters to achieve plant production targets (as designated), while ensuring health, safety, environmental and community relations standards are set and maintained. Ensure adherence to statutory requirements as a minimum standard.

Key roles and responsibilities include:

  • Establishing and maintaining metallurgical procedures, standards and policies
  • Coordinate the implementation of management initiatives in the Plant Processing area and ensure appropriate alignment with strategy and the requirements of other departments
  • Provide all necessary internal and external reports on safety, operational and environmental performance, ensuring accuracy and timeliness
  • Participate as a key member of the Processing Management Team to develop initiatives strategies standards and policies to ensure project implementation in accordance with the feasibility study and strategic and business plan
  • Promote active participation of employees in identifying and reporting potential environmental hazards
  • Encourage employees to investigate and trial new ideas, methods and technology, to ensure continuous improvement throughout the area of influence
  • Ensure the department long-term targets are identified achieved through planning, scheduling and strategy implementation. Contribute to the development of strategic and annual plans
  • Plan and execute test work to monitor and improve plant performance
  • Support the cost effective achievement of monthly and annual production targets (ore tonnes, waste movement and mill throughput) in accordance with the project feasibility study, whilst adhering to company safety, environmental and operational standards
  • Attend regular meetings with production and maintenance personnel to review equipment performance, develop remedial actions as required and develop improvement plans for cost and performance. Meeting minutes must be recorded and contain a list of responsible persons and timelines for action
  • Gather and evaluate plant and test work data. Use the data to identify areas for improvement in throughput, cost savings or metal extraction
  • Developing, operate and maintaining the metallurgical accounting system for the production of daily, weekly, monthly and annual metallurgical reporting
  • Ensuring timely and effective two-way communication of workplace information required to effectively perform processing functions, making reference to Supervisors and other key employees when sensitive or critical situations arise

Qualifications, Skills and Experience required:

  • Degree in Mineral Processing or related field with at least five (5) years industrial work experience
  • Strong safety focused with current First Aid certificate
  • Sound understanding of conflict resolution and communication skills
  • Be able to negotiate and communicate well at all levels
  • Able to write and present report, utilising MS Office suites
  • Willing and able to work with a flexible company roster and to varying hours to accomplish goals
  • Be a team player, fostering diverse abilities
  • Excellent leadership skills with the ability to motivate, coach and mentor team members
  • Possesses current and valid PNG Driving License

 

The above role is Hidden Valley Mine Site based
