Job Overview

We are currently seeking to recruit Fitters for our Fixed Plant Maintenance (FPM) – Mechanical Department. Reporting to the Senior Fitters, the successful applicants will mainly be responsible for safely performing preventative maintenance and repairs of Fixed Plant equipment.

Key roles and responsibilities include:

  • Safely perform mechanical maintenance and repairs on crushing, conveying, grinding, flotation and pumping equipment
  • Identify and report unsafe or defective tooling and equipment to immediate Supervisor
  • Maintain a clean, tidy and safe work area
  • Develop Job Safety & Environmental Analysis (JSEA) for each task and work within team environment
  • Report all accidents and incidents, no matter how minor to immediate Supervisor
  • Provide informative handovers to supervisor or other Trades Persons
  • Actively participate in the development of on the job training plans
  • Capable of locating and understanding SWP repair procedures, technical data and Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS)
  • Provide accurate and concise written feedback on work orders as regards to hours of work, work performed, parts used and status of job or equipment condition

Qualifications, Skills and Experience required:

  • Minimum Grade 12 Level Education
  • Fitter/Machinist by trade with PNG NATTB Tradesman Certificate
  • Minimum 5 years or more experience in a similar role, preferably within the Mining Industry
  • Have broad experience and repairs on crushing, conveying, grinding, flotation and pumping equipment
  • Have basic lathe machining skills and use of pneumatic hand tools
  • Sound planning and organizational skills
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills
  • Ability to work unsupervised
  • Demonstrate matured approach and strong self-discipline
  • Good oral and written communications skills in English and Tok Pisin
  • Have a current and valid PNG’s class 3 or 6 driver’s licence
  • Must be a self-starter
  • Must have urgencies on every tasks assigned to him by his Supervisors but to get them done safely and in a timely manner
  • Must have a good punctuality and time keeping manner

The above role is Hidden Valley mine site based.
