About the Role

The Digital Training & Advisory Consultant, also known as Digital Champion, is a paid, part-time, remote consultant position in the Pacific Islands focusing on serving the local tourism industry as on-island digital ambassadors, coordinating local digital training, upskilling, and support programme to build capacity in digital skills in the local tourism industry. We are currently hiring for this remote position from Australia, New Zealand, and all of the Pacific Islands, including: Fiji, Papua New Guinea, Vanuatu, Cook Islands, New Caledonia, French Polynesia, Tonga, Samoa, Niue, American Samoa, Marshall Islands, FSM, Nauru, Solomon Islands, Timor Leste, among others).

Following feedback from SPTO’s consultation process, the idea of hiring a Digital Training & Advisory Consultant in each of the Pacific Islands was prioritized. The goal of this role is to empower the local industry through training and education in digital skills, with cumulative impacts locally leading to broader digital transformation in the region. These Digital Training & Advisory Consultants are being sourced locally or recruited from overseas, but are expected to be island based – working with the industry as an extension of the national tourism organization or regional tourism body on the Island. The Digital Training & Advisory Consultants will work to remain up to date on digital tools, trends and new programs to provide tailored and consistent support to NTO staff, trade partners and other tourism stakeholders locally. In addition, the Digital Training & Advisory Consultants will work closely with the Lead Digital Specialist and Marketing Manager at SPTO to ensure that local training and capacity building targets are being met.


The Digital Training & Advisory Consultant will be responsible for:

  • Tracking regional and global digital trends, technologies and initiatives
  • Uploading relevant content to a digital academy or library
  • Advising National Tourism Organization (NTO) staff, industry trade partners, and other tourism stakeholders locally on new digital trends, technologies, and initiatives
  • Advising NTO staff and industry trade partners on the introduction and implementation of relevant outputs of other SPTO projects including new recommendations in the realms of digital benchmarks, content goals, and consumer, trade and media marketing.
  • Delivering a local training program for digital skills for NTOs and trader
  • Providing certificates to local trainee
  • Tracking success of the local training program for digital skills for NTOs and local tourism trade stakeholders

Job Qualifications

At least Bachelor’s Degree (Preferably Postgraduate) in information technology, marketing, digital marketing and web designing or relevant field;

  • At least two (2) Years work Experience with recognized digital, social media, or marketing fields
  • At least one (1) Year of experience in training development or delivery
  • At least one (1) Year of experience in project management or project coordination in the digital or marketing space
  • Good Web Skills (Microsoft Office, Content management, Adobe Illustrator or Photoshop, etc.
  • Excellence command over English both written and spoken.
  • Good understanding of challenges and opportunities related to tourism or the travel sector in the Pacific islands countries would be an advantage.
