Job Overview
The Credit Controller role is a key role within our high-performing and ever-evolving Finance team.
Reporting to the Financial Controller, the Credit Controller role will be responsible for reducing bad debt expenses through minimization of all overdue debtor balances, facilitated through enforcing and carrying out the credit strategy and accounts receivable policies.
Responsibilities
– Responsible for the effective management of the debtor’s ledger with a view to minimizing debt collection risk, enhancing cash inflows, and achieving key KPIs
– Identify and assess company debtor risks, develop strategies, assess doubtful debt provisions, debt write-offs, and assist with the financial month-end close as appropriate
– Deal with debtors (mainly students) of different cultural backgrounds, to counsel, coach, and guide students through their payment plans
– Review/approval of student refund requests or advise as appropriate on fee disputes
– Proactively manage payment plans, payment extensions, its review/approval, impact on cash flow and ensure compliance with company policies
– Resolve student/corporate debtors queries and issues in relation to payments, payment extension requests, and related issues
– Support the cash forecasting process by advising and providing estimates and analysis of future cash inflows
– Customer record maintenance (as appropriate)
– Ensure that merchant facilities are collecting on time and when required, ensuring all systems are operating effectively and efficiently
– Refer debts to third-party collection agencies when necessary
Skills, Attributes
– At least 5 years solid experience in a similar role
– Strong communication skills – both verbal and written. Experience communicating with those of diverse backgrounds is desirable
– Ability to build effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders
– Excellent organization and time management skills
– Tenacity and ability to conduct difficult conversations
– Strong analytical/numeracy skills and experience to interpret numbers, identifying potential risks, and problem solve
– Intermediate software skills, including excel
– Personal leadership through behaviors shown in interactions with other teams, external
stakeholders
