Job Overview

Established in 1983 as the Tourism Council of the South Pacific, the Pacific Tourism Organisation (SPTO) is the mandated organisation representing Tourism in the region. In addition to government members, the Pacific Tourism Organisation has about 145 private sector members.

The role is responsible for supporting and undertaking (as delegated) research on tourism and the associated economic, environmental and socio-cultural impacts in the Pacific region. The incumbent collects and analyses data reports on and presents key outcomes and findings to stakeholders and SPTO management. S/he reports to the Research & Statistics Manager and will be responsible for driving and achieving the following critical outcomes:

  • Provision of effective support on all Tourism Research Projects

– Ensure collation, analysis and publication of Market intelligence e.g., the monthly Market Watch and other emerging needs

– Manage and maintain tourism data, publications and user enquiries and access for the online SPTO Knowledge Hub (SKH)

  • Facilitate Priority Tourism Statistical Needs

– Conduct regular research and data collection, compilation, interpretation and report analysis

– Ensure stakeholders research and statistical demands are met on a timely basis

– Carry out standardisation of data sets in accordance with international standards and classifications

  • Provide Technical Advisory Assistance and Training for SPTO staff and members
  • Ensure Effective Sustainability Impact Monitoring

– Research and develop Sustainability Monitoring statistical programme

The person we seek will have a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Development/Economics/Tourism/Statistics and a minimum of 3 years experience in research and statistics development work with demonstrated experience in a similar role. The candidate must possess the following:

  • Proven experience in research and statistics work including analytical research and statistical experience
  • Knowledge of publications and statistical software (e.g., Microsoft Excel, Info-graphics, dashboards, etc.)
  • Strong analytical skills in writing statistical and economic reports
  • Ability to establish and maintain relationships and partnerships with a wide range of stakeholders
