The Opportunity
The position is responsible for supporting the design, development and implementation of e-learning applications and courseware that enhance online learning and teaching environment using the University’s learning management system. This position will also be responsible for developing strategies, instructions and training to facilitate and leverage the use of technology to increase student engagement in an online environment across the University.
The Appointee will:
– Manage coding and programming aspects of identified MOODLE Learning Management System projects through quality practices and techniques;
– Researching and examining current and future Learning systems;
– Developing existing programmes by analyzing and identifying areas of modification;
– Integrating existing software products and getting incompatible platforms to work together;
– Creating technical specifications and test plans and writing software, documentation and operating manuals; – Maintaining systems by monitoring and correcting software defects;
– Evaluating and testing new technologies and trend;
– Gathering data and statistical information for Learning Systems including monitoring and evaluation , and report as required;
– Take lead in the upgrade of Moodle and all associated software’s used in conjunction with Moodle;
– Perform high-level design and implementation of templates for online courses;
– Liaise with support, infrastructure and other business elements in the University to ensure the effective deployment of online courses;
– Assist in contributing to document policy and procedures that are to be used in online courses;
– Assist in the development of portal and electronic access systems planning and implementation strategies; and – Participate in technical feasibility studies and the preparation of proposal server.
The Person we Seek
To be considered for this position, applicants must have:
- A degree and postgraduate qualificationm Computing or Information System or Information Technology;
- At least five years working experience in the implementation and management of Learning Management System Technologies
- Knowledge and done some of the following or equivalent:-
- programmed in ASP.NET and ASP.NET CORE environment with C#,
- programming PHP, PERL, Java, Groovy and/or Grails, GIT tools,
- SQL programming,
- Developed Web Applications and/or Web Service Application,
- Mobile Application Development skills will be an added advantage,
- Current working knowledge/experience in installing /upgrading/supporting of PostgreSQL DBMS version 14.4 or higher;
- Installed /Upgraded/Supported the following DBMS Maria DB, MYSQL, or MS SQL Server 2016/2019;
- Current working knowledge/experience in installing/upgrading/supporting of Apache and NGINX web servers;
- Strong knowledge and experience in a Linux Environment and Windows Server environment;
- Linux Shell Programming (Bash Scripting),
- Windows Shell Programming (Powershell and Batch Programming),
- Current working knowledge/experience in installing/upgrading/supporting of Moodle 3.9, 4.0, or 4.1;
- Current working knowledge/experience in installing/upgrading/supporting of Mahara version 17.10.4 or higher;
- Working knowledge of Moodle Plugins, Moodle reporting, Moodle API’s;
- Familiarity with Cognos, Jasper, MS Reporting Services or an equivalent Report Writer;
- Experience in project management and the delivery of IT projects in an educational setting
- Skills in advanced level including:-
- Excellent problem-solving,
- The ability to work to a high degree of accuracy,
- Understanding of programming and in particular object-oriented programming,
- Understanding of database concepts and structures,
- Excellent programming skills,
- The ability to work quickly, under pressure and to deadlines,
- Business and Process Analysis Skills, and
- Systems/Programs/DB Design Skills;
- Good team working skills;
- Carry out good documentation;
- Be able to use Process and Software Design software’s;
- An appreciation of wider business demands;
- Good communication, presentation skills;
- Awareness of Software used in Higher Ed Administration;
- Awareness of Human Resource Software used in large organization;
- A willingness to keep up to date with developments in technology: and
- An awareness of the implications of information laws, such as the Data Protection Act.

The position is available for a term of three years and may be renewed by mutual agreement.
Salary Range
- FJ$69,208 to FJ$84,783 per annum
