The Solomon Islands Terrestrial Program Manager works within the Solomon Islands Conservation Leadership Team to deliver impactful terrestrial conservation under The Nature Conservancy Solomon Islands Strategic Plan. They use the best available information to prioritize terrestrial ecosystems for protection, including through facilitation of Ridges to Reefs conservation planning. They collaborate with local, regional, and global teams within The Nature Conservancy to design and implement conservation projects across these priority ecosystems in close partnership with government agencies, major institutions, community-based organizations, and landowners. The Solomon Islands Terrestrial Program Manager manages projects employing nature-based solutions (NbS) including carbon feasibility and design in Solomon Islands.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • BA/BS, law or business degree and 5 years’ experience in natural resource management or related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Demonstrated understanding of climate mitigation and adaptation issues.
  • Experience incorporating Gender Equity and Social Inclusion (GESI) into project design and implementation.
  • Experience collecting and interpreting scientific data and other information to inform conservation and climate change mitigation decision making.
  • Experience working with partners such as government agencies, non-profits, and the corporate sector.
  • Excellent communication skills via written, spoken and graphical means in English and Solomon Islands Pidgin. Including experience in preparing of reports and negotiating complex agreements.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Multi-lingual and multi-cultural or cross-cultural experience appreciated – particularly in Solomon Islands’ languages and cultures.
  • 5-7 years’ experience in conservation practice or related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Knowledge of current trends and practices in terrestrial management, conservation practice, and conservation science.
  • Experience incorporating Gender Equity and Social Inclusion (GESI) into project design and implementation.
  • Ability to explain conservation practices to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Completing tasks independently with respect to timeline(s).
  • Demonstrated experience influencing, developing, and implementing conservation policy and plans.
  • Demonstrated experience in fundraising.
