Tourism Fiji is the Fiji government's tourism marketing agency, with the primary role to promote Fiji as a world class tourist destination for the purpose of maximising sustainable and long-term benefits to Fiji.

Our goal is to inspire travelers to choose Fiji as their destination of choice and to strengthen the social, cultural, environmental, and economic benefits of tourism for Fiji.

We are seeking a passionate and very hands-on Sustainability Officer who is able to work with the government and key tourism industry stakeholders to advocate consensus building and wider participation in the delivery and advancement of sustainable tourism strategies in Fiji.

The successful candidate will report to the Chief Operations Officer. Key responsibilities include:

• Collaborate with key government and tourism stakeholders in developing resource efficient initiatives that result in enhanced economic, social, environmental, and cultural sustainability throughout the industry and beyond.
• Support the Ministry of Tourism & Civil Aviation (MTCA) to promote and advocate effective partnerships with local governments, town councils, NGOs, and the private sector to deliver effective sustainable development initiatives.
• Assist the Chief Operations Officer (COO) in reaching out to development partners, national Government, international financial institutions, regional and international agencies to support Tourism Fiji in transitioning towards sustainable tourism.
• Partner with MTCA in developing a certification process towards being a sustainable destination through the Global Sustainable Tourism Council and a national sustainable tourism framework, drawing inspiration from global best practice.
• Regularly meet with relevant stakeholder to review Tourism Fiji’s progress and commitments to sustainability.
• Help calculate and publish Tourism Fiji’s carbon footprint, as well as establish internal standards for purchasing, procurement and audit highlighting sustainability measures.

Requirements:

• A recognised degree in Sustainability or Environmental Science or related field with at least 2 years of proven work experience in a similar role.
• Practical knowledge of environmental regulations and sustainability requirements.
• Excellent verbal, written communication and presentation skills.
• Strong analytical, critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
• Great organisational skills and attention to detail.
• Strong awareness of legislations, compliance and the value chain sustainability in line with Tourism Fiji’s Corporate Plan.

This role is based at Tourism Fiji’s head office in Nadi, with working hours from 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM (Mon–Thu) and up to 4:00 PM on Fridays. Occasional business travel and work outside of these hours may be required.
