Resort Accountant

About the Role:

The Accountant is responsible for maintaining the resort's financial integrity through accurate and timely financial reporting, reconciliations, and ledger management. The role supports the Financial Controller in ensuring compliance with internal policies, external regulations, and best industry practices while maintaining strong working relationships across departments.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and assist with monthly financial reports, journal vouchers, and budget submissions.
  • Maintain accurate general ledger and subsidiary ledger reconciliations.
  • Conduct month-end procedures including cash flow management, asset ledger updates, and bank reconciliations.
  • Coordinate weekly billing for debtors and manage the reconciliation of long-outstanding debtor and creditor balances.
  • Ensure all reports (daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annually) are accurate and submitted timely after Financial Controller review.
  • Assist in the preparation of reports required by Head Office and for the Owner's Accounts.
  • Conduct regular spot checks within the accounting operations to ensure adherence to internal controls.
  • Operate the accounting system in accordance with established user protocols.
  • Maintain compliance with financial and audit standards.
  • Assist with the recruitment, orientation, and training of finance team members in collaboration with the People and Culture department.
  • Conduct annual appraisals for department personnel, providing constructive feedback and career development support.
  • Foster a high level of morale, professionalism, and teamwork within the Finance Department.
  • Discipline and counsel staff where required in accordance with resort policies.
  • Lead by example in punctuality, professional appearance, and resort conduct.
  • Be actively involved in resort sustainability, safety, and wellness initiatives.
  • Maintain awareness and adhere to the resort’s policies relating to fire, health, hygiene, cyclone preparedness, and environmental responsibilities.
  • Report any hazards or concerns immediately to management.

 

Requirements:

  • High level of financial acumen and attention to detail.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Integrity, discretion, and confidentiality.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
  • Professional, courteous, and mature approach in dealing with colleagues and external stakeholders.
  • High competency in accounting software and MS Office applications.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in a similar accounting role, preferably in the hospitality or resort sector.
  • Familiarity with resort operations and accounting systems is an advantage
