POSITION TITLE: Logistics & Media Specialist
BUSINESS LINE AND GROUP: International Development, Economic Policy and Governance (EP&G)
POSITION LOCATION: Solomon Islands
LEVEL OF EFFORT: Part-time (up to ten days/month)

 

BACKGROUND:

Nathan focuses on a range of economic development subject matter areas including Trade & Logistics; Economic Policy & Governance; Private Sector Development; Women’s Economic Empowerment; and Structured Finance and Investment.

In 2018, Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) selected Solomon Islands as eligible for an MCC Threshold Program. In 2019, MCC’s Solomon Islands’ Threshold Program Country Team (SICT) conducted a constraints analysis to identify the primary constraints to growth and development in Solomon Islands. The findings of the constraints analysis identified two binding constraints to growth: (i) secure access to land, focused on the tourism sector; and (ii) ineffective management of natural resources, particularly in logging.

MCC has contracted Nathan Associates to support the development of the SI Threshold Program. Nathan Associates is hiring a consultant for the role of Logistics & Media Specialist to gather and report information on political developments in Solomon Islands to our main office and client.

 

POSITION SUMMARY:
Gather information and conduct research on select political and economic topics and provide logistical and operational support for productive program implementation and oversight.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Gather news articles and provide a round-up of key news items relevant to the Threshold Program to Nathan’s Home Office, with a brief summary of each news article, including both print and digital materials, as some news items are only available via printed newspaper and are not available online
  • Schedule, arrange logistics, and participate in meetings with stakeholders related to the Solomon Islands THP in coordination with the Resident Threshold Director and/or the Nathan team
  • Provide the following written materials on a regular basis agreed upon by MCC and Nathan, a Cadmus Company:

o Meeting minutes and briefs
o Weekly reports providing an update on the current political scenario in Solomon Islands, including major newspaper articles and any additional sources not available online

  • Work collaboratively with MCC officials and other contractors and consultants that are supporting the Solomon Islands Threshold Program, including implementing partners
  • Present findings to MCC officials in person and/or via videoconference, upon request by Nathan or MCC
  • Provide other logistical and operational support as requested by MCC related to the oversight of the threshold program

QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS:

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Political Science, Public Administration, or relevant field
  • 2 years of experience in political economy or a relevant field; and logistical and operations support
  • Strong communications skills, ability to respond quickly to client requests, and ability to juggle multiple requests at once
  • Strong understanding of politics in Solomon Islands and the political process
  • Candidates must be based in Solomon Islands and maintain an understanding and awareness of current events in Solomon Islands
  • Interpersonal skills to work well with different stakeholders across time zones
  • Comfort with technology, including basic MS Office suite and research tools

Desired

  • Master’s degree in Political Science, Public Administration, or relevant field
  • Strong research and analysis skills
