Position Title: Electrician
Department: Engineering & Maintenance
Reports To: Engineering Supervisor/Manager
Job Purpose:
The Electrician is responsible for the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of electrical systems, equipment, and fixtures at Wakaya Island Resort. The role ensures all electrical work is conducted in compliance with Fijian electrical standards, safety regulations, and resort operational requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
- Electrical Installation & Maintenance
- Install, maintain, and repair electrical wiring, fixtures, and control equipment.
- Ensure all electrical installations comply with the Fiji Electricity Authority (FEA) regulations.
- Perform routine inspections and preventive maintenance on electrical systems.
- Upgrade and modify electrical systems as required to meet operational needs.
- Troubleshooting & Repairs
- Diagnose electrical faults and repair power distribution, lighting, and control systems.
- Conduct testing of electrical circuits, components, and equipment using appropriate tools.
- Respond promptly to electrical breakdowns and ensure minimal disruption to resort operations.
- Generator & Power Supply Management
- Monitor and maintain backup generators and ensure they are operational at all times.
- Conduct regular load testing and fuel level checks.
- Troubleshoot generator issues and arrange repairs as necessary.
- Compliance & Safety
- Follow all Fijian occupational health and safety regulations, including the Electricity Act of Fiji.
- Ensure compliance with environmental and energy efficiency guidelines.
- Properly handle and dispose of electrical waste, including used bulbs, batteries, and wiring.
- Maintain proper documentation of electrical work, inspections, and incident reports.
- Resort Support & Coordination
- Work closely with other departments to address electrical needs for accommodation, kitchen, marina, and recreational areas.
- Assist in setting up temporary electrical connections for special events.
- Train junior staff or apprentices on basic electrical safety and maintenance.
Qualifications & Experience
Certification: Trade Certificate or Diploma in Electrical Engineering from a recognized institution.
License: Valid Electrical Wireman’s License issued by the Fiji Electrical Licensing Board.
Experience: Minimum 3–5 years of hands-on experience in electrical maintenance, preferably in a resort or hospitality setting.
Knowledge: Familiarity with Fiji Electricity Authority (FEA) regulations and occupational health and safety standards.
Skills:
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical diagrams and technical manuals.
- Proficiency with electrical tools and testing equipment.
- Good communication and teamwork skills.
Physical Requirements: Ability to work in outdoor island conditions, lift heavy equipment, and perform tasks in confined spaces.
Work Environment
Based at Wakaya Island Resort, working across guest accommodations, facilities, and service areas.
May require shift work, including weekends and emergency call-outs.
Exposure to tropical climate conditions, requiring adherence to safety protocols.
