Aspen Medical is seeking qualified and experienced candidates for the position of Cook. The Cook is responsible for preparing and cooking a variety of dishes according to recipes and standards set by the Head Chef or Chef. This role involves handling food preparation, cooking, plating, and maintaining cleanliness and organization in the kitchen. The Cook ensures that all food is prepared to the highest quality and safety standards, contributing to a positive dining experience for customers.

The roles and responsibilities of this position include:

    • Chop, slice, dice, and measure ingredients according to recipes and menu specifications.
    • Marinate, season, and prepare proteins as required.
    • Cook dishes according to recipes, using appropriate cooking methods such as grilling, baking, frying, steaming, and sautéing.
    • Monitor and adjust temperature settings on ovens, grills, and other cooking equipment to ensure proper cooking.
    • Assemble and plate dishes with attention to presentation and portion sizes.
    • Add garnishes or finishing touches to enhance the appearance of dishes.
    • Have a thorough understanding of the menu items, ingredients, and cooking techniques.
    • Assist in creating or recommending new menu items or specials based on seasonal ingredients and trends.
    • Maintain a clean and organized workstation, including all cooking equipment, utensils, and surfaces.
    • Follow all food safety and sanitation guidelines to prevent contamination and ensure hygiene.
    • Monitor and manage inventory levels of ingredients and supplies.
    • Communicate with the Chef or Head Chef regarding the need to order more supplies or ingredients.
    • Regularly inspect cooking equipment to ensure it is in good working condition.
    • Report any malfunctioning equipment or safety hazards to the Chef or Head Chef.
    • Work collaboratively with kitchen staff, including kitchen hand to ensure efficient kitchen operations.
    • Assist in training and guiding junior kitchen staff as needed.
    • Ensure consistency in food preparation and presentation.
    • Follow recipes and portion control guidelines precisely.
    • Respond to customer feedback and make adjustments to dishes as needed.
    • Maintain high standards of quality and taste in all prepared dishes.
    • Participate in the development of a safe and healthy workplace and comply with instructions given in adhering to safe work procedures.
    • Take reasonable care to ensure own safety and health and that of others and to abide by our duty of care provided for in the OHS policy.
    • Any other reasonable duties delegated by management

Experience and Qualifications Required

  • Successful completion of a Certificate in Cookery or culinary arts program
  • 1-2 years of experience as a cook or in a similar role.
  • Proficiency in various cooking techniques and knowledge of diverse cuisines.
  • Strong understanding of different cooking methods, ingredients, equipment, and procedures.
  • Proficient knife skills and ability to perform basic culinary tasks.
  • Ability to work efficiently and manage time effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Keen attention to detail, especially in food preparation and presentation.
  • Good communication skills and ability to follow instructions.
  • Knowledge of quality food preparation and presentation methods
  • Experience in a similar work environment
  • Basic knowledge of occupational health and safety in the workplace
  • Ability to cook both vegetarian and non-vegetarian meals in large quantities and on time
  • Demonstrate a high standard of personal appearance and good personal hygiene.
  • Ability to stand for long periods, handle repetitive motions, and lift heavy objects if required.
  • Demonstrate ability to work under minimal supervision
  • Ability to communicate both verbally and written
