The world is advancing to digitalization and technology. Technology is changing the workplace. The job that you have today, you may not have it in 30 years time with advancements in technology. We do not know how technology will affect jobs in the future, but there are indications that most jobs will be lost to automation in the near future. In fact, it is predicted that by 2030 , 73 million jobs will be lost to automation. It is also predicted that all workers at all levels will be assisted by robots, to do jobs like sort through incoming email, schedule meetings, create spreadsheets,etc. Another prediction is that jobs in the agriculture filed, trade and construction are expected to decline.

Now we do not know for sure what the future holds, and those are just predictions right? Either way, here are some careers for the future and the necessary qualifications needed for each career.

Software developers/engineers

We should not be surprised that technology will not go away in the near future, and developers are necessary for technology to thrive. In order to build software, phone applications, websites and implement Internet of things a software developer is necessary. In the Pacific itself, the need for software developers and programmers continue to rise, yet we do not have enough developers/programmers to fulfill that need. Developers and programmers also need to stay up to date with the latest programming languages and learn advanced coding at entry level, as entry level programming will be replaced by automation in the years to come.

Software Developer is ranked #5 by U.S News in their list of 100 best jobs for 2022. Hence, this is a career path that you can take as it will be in demand for a long time.

Nurse Practitioner

Technology may advance in the years to come, but, people would still need medical treatment in the future. There are so many research being done to find cure for diseases, make vaccines and improve health of people. But, nurses would still be needed in the future to assist and care for the sick and injured.  The U.S Bureau of Statistics estimates that nearly half of all nurse practitioners would be working in doctor’s offices by 2029, 27% will be working in hospitals, and 8% in outpatient care centers. Thus, if you want to start a career in the medical field or want to further your career in the medical field, then you might as well consider nursing.

Financial managers create financial reports, lead investment activities and develop long-term financial goals for an organization.  Financial manager careers are expected to grow within the next 10 years, faster than other careers. For instance, about 64,200 job openings for financial managers are projected each year. This is a result of people leaving the field or people that exit the labor force.

As technology advances, big data also continues to grow. Hence, marketing analysts will have endless amount of data available to study market trends, formulate  predictions, conduct analysis and make decisions. Even though most jobs of research analysts will be automated in the years to come, marketing analysts still need knowledge in using certain software to find patterns and draw results from those patterns.
