Organisational Setting and Reporting
The UN Secretary-General launched on 1 January 2019 a bold and new global reform which repositioned the UN Development System to deliver more effectively and efficiently with the achievement of the 2030 Agenda and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
As part of this reform, UN Resident Coordinator Offices (UN RCO)โunder the leadership of an empowered and independent UN Resident Coordinator (the highest-ranking official of the UN Development System and Representative of the UN Secretary-General at country level)โsupport countries in achieving their development priorities and the SDGs.
The Data Analyst interacts with:
- Internal counterparts in data engineering, data science, and other technical units
- External counterparts in UN funds, programmes, specialized agencies, consultants, and NGOs
The role involves developing and implementing databases, data collection systems, and analytics to optimize statistical efficiency and quality.

Responsibilities
Within delegated authority, the incumbent will:
- Develop and implement databases, data collection systems, and analytics strategies
- Identify, analyze, and interpret trends or patterns using statistical methods
- Develop analysis, reporting, and quality control capabilities
- Create reports, dashboards, and tools to summarize findings
- Document requirements, background, and methodologies
- Create interactive and static data visualizations
- Lead production of data products (e.g., reports, newsletters)
- Draft inputs for reports, briefings, and correspondence
- Coordinate with other organizational units to request and share data
- Collaborate with data engineers and scientists to improve data flows
- Stay updated on trends in data analytics and advise management
- Support model evaluation using validation metrics
- Build staff capacity in data analytics through training
- Deliver tailored workshops on data analytics
- Conduct robust data analysis to support project execution
- Supervise and guide colleagues in data-centric roles
- Oversee specific projects and ensure alignment with objectives
- Utilize resources for analysis, reporting, and quality control
- Support audit preparation through data and compliance tracking

- Advanced university degree (Masterโs or equivalent) in:

- Applied Mathematics

- Related quantitative fields

- First-level university degree with qualifying experience
๐ Preferred:
- Completion of degree or non-degree programs in data analytics, business analytics, or data science
Work Experience
โ 5 years of progressively responsible experience in:
- Data manipulation and analysis
- Data storytelling and visualization (Tableau, Power BI, Qlik, R)
- Quality assurance of data outputs
โ Desirable:
- Data validation and accuracy assessment
- Database management and ETL processes
- Translating business requirements into technical solutions
Languages
- Required: Fluency in oral and written English
- Desirable: Knowledge of another official UN language
Assessment
Evaluation may include:
- A written test
- A competency-based interview (via phone or teleconference)
