Basic Duties: The Protocol Assistant assists with the daily administrative tasks in the Executive Office. Liaises with the Executive Office, and work with other sections to support representational events and meetings, which include the Ambassador and Deputy Chief of Mission. Serves as a key advisor on protocol matters and local customs to the Executive Office and other mission employees. May assist other offices as staffing needs required, including but not limited to consular duties.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
Education: At least two years of college or university studies.
Experience: Minimum of three years of work experience in providing secretarial/office administrative support and/or protocol-related support in a public or private sector.
Language: English and Tongan: Level 4 – Fluent; speaking/reading/ writing, may include the ability to translate

Job Knowledge: Must have comprehensive knowledge of host government protocol procedures, as well as general etiquette and social mores of the host country. Awareness of how the political structure and situation of the host government affecting protocol. Knowledge of appropriate hotel accommodations and restaurants for visiting dignitaries and delegations.
Skills and Abilities: Ability to use computer applications such as Excel, Word, SharePoint, and PowerPoint. Good knowledge of written English grammar and usage, Ability to work comfortably with those at a higher rank. Must be thoroughly acquainted with event planning.
